About the artist
Elena van Loon is a Dutch self-taught artist whose work focuses on atmospheric oil paintings inspired by nature, light, and quiet moments in the landscape. Her paintings often depict serene waterways, trees, and soft reflections, capturing the subtle beauty of natural environments.
Working primarily with oil paint on canvas, she explores the relationship between light, depth, and mood. Warm earthy tones and gentle contrasts create a sense of calm and timelessness within her work.
Through her paintings, Elena aims to create a quiet space for the viewer, an invitation to pause and reconnect with the peaceful rhythm of nature.
Elena is largely self-taught. Early in her artistic journey she briefly explored formal art education, but she soon realized that the structured environment of an art academy did not suit her way of working and thinking. Instead of following a fixed path, she chose to develop her own artistic voice through independent study, observation of nature, and many years of dedicated practice.
Working outside the traditional academic framework allowed her to explore painting freely and intuitively. Through experimentation and continuous learning, she gradually refined her technique and developed the atmospheric style that characterizes her work today.
